American Repertory Theater was founded in 1980 by Robert Brustein. The professional theatre company is located on the campus of Harvard University, and A.R.T. regularly collaborates with the university's various departments when creating new work. The theatre is best known, however, for its many Broadway-bound productions. Its production of All the Way won the Tony Award for Best New Play, and its Pippin and The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess revivals won consecutive Best Revival of a Musical Tonys. A.R.T.'s works have also won 18 more Tonys and a Pulitzer Prize, and the institution itself won the 1986 Regional Theatre Tony Award.
