V for Vendetta. The hacker group Anonymous. The iconic visage of Guy Hawkes has become a postmodern symbol of political resistance and anarchism. The music from that period also remains as charged and fervent as ever, reflecting the political and religious upheavals in early 17th-century England.
The Folger Consort will perform political ballads of Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot, along with instrumental music from the royal courts of James I and Charles I, and political songs from Thomas D’Urfey’s Pills to Purge Melancholy.
