About New York City Ballet

The powerhouse dancers of NYCB, celebrated the world over for their interpretations of both classic and contemporary choreography, return to the Kennedy Center with George Balanchine’s joyful and whimsical A Midsummer Night’s Dream, plus new works by Sidra Bell, Jamar Roberts, and Justin Peck.

Visionary Voices - June 7 & 8 Be among the first audiences in D.C. to see new works from some of today's most visionary choreographers! Sidra Bell’s SUSPENDED ANIMATION creates an introspective world with Bauhaus-inspired, brilliantly vibrant costumes. Eight dancers playfully show off an unwavering sense of musicality in Jamar Roberts’ Emanon—In Two Movements, and to close the evening, Justin Peck’s Partita embodies the voices of Caroline Shaw’s Pulitzer Prize-winning composition Partita for 8 Voices.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream - June 9–12 A Midsummer Night’s Dream is dance maker and company co-founder George Balanchine’s first original evening-length ballet. Based on William Shakespeare’s cherished comedy and set to music by Felix Mendelssohn, Balanchine's two-act version is dance storytelling at its finest, portraying the adventures and misadventures of three couples in an enchanted forest. Featuring radiant choreography, bravura performances, and talented young student dancers as swarms of dancing insects, A Midsummer Night’s Dream culminates in a grand wedding celebration and a tender pas de deux that ranks among the most moving in ballet.
