See Lea Michele as the greatest star in Funny Girl through September 3 only! The classic musical is back on Broadway for the first time since its original production in 1964. Don’t let anyone rain on your parade.
The Glee star’s first Broadway performance in a decade is an unmissable one — she “stands alone as a singular Broadway performer” (New York Theatre Guide) in this show filled with plenty of comedy, romance, and old-fashioned showbiz flair. As the Follies showgirl who risks everything for love, “she even lights up like a light. Both vulnerable and invulnerable, kooky and ardent, she makes the show worth watching again,” The New York Times raved of Michele’s “stupendous” performance. Plus, you have the rare chance to hear all Funny Girl’s fan-favorite songs live, from “I’m the Greatest Star” to “People” to the iconic showstopper “Don’t Rain On My Parade.”
Hear the music that makes you dance once again, and see this beloved show on stage for the first time in nearly 60 years.
Important information about performing schedules:
Julie Benko will perform as Fanny on Thursday evenings. Michele will also not perform:
The Funny Girl musical tells the semi-autobiographical story of variety performer Fanny Brice, who defied the odds to become a comedy actress in the legendary Ziegfeld Follies. She falls in love with the suave gambler Nick Arnstein, but Nick’s shady past casts a shadow on their relationship. Can she have fame and love at once, or does choosing one mean losing the other?
Funny Girl's story of determination, romance, and life in the theatre is perfect for anyone looking to laugh, and Fanny is relatable to anyone who's ever taken a chance on a dream.
The original Funny Girl Broadway production, featuring a book by Isobel Stennart, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Bob Merrill, premiered in 1964 to critical acclaim. Within four years, a film adaptation came out that made a household name — and an Academy Award winner — out of Barbra Streisand.
Both iterations of the show have cemented their legacy in performing arts history: Funny Girl's original Broadway cast recording is in the Grammy Hall of Fame, and the Funny Girl movie is in the National Film Registry as a culturally significant movie.
