About Wicked

Look to the Western skies! Find out what really happened to Glinda the Good Witch and Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West, and book Wicked in London tickets on TodayTix.

Fall in love with Oz during the Wicked musical. Stephen Schwartz’s anthemic score with songs like “No Good Deed,” “Dancing Through Life,” and “For Good,” will leave you wishing you could journey down the yellow brick road. London Theatre raved about Wicked too, claiming it’s “pure fantasy entertainment [that] even the hardest of hearts will find difficult to resist.”

The Wizard of Oz follows Dorothy in Oz, but what happened before Dorothy? Enter Elphaba and Glinda. One’s a green-skinned witch who learns about her powers, and the other’s a pink-wearing university queen bee.

The pair become unexpected best friends, but when Elphaba discovers a threat to the citizens of Oz, she makes it her mission to protect others, no matter what the cost. Wicked asks what it means to be yourself, even when you may feel like the only person in the world. Make sure you’re not late for Wizomania.

More information about Wicked

There’s plenty of magic in Oz. Eugene Lee’s bewitching designs will transport you to Shiz University and to the wizard’s headquarters. Susan Hilferty’s costumes breathe human life into the animal characters; monkeys and goats are all the rage. You don’t need to wait for a rainbow to go to Oz. Your entrance is at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, right in the heart of London.

Elphaba’s name actually comes from The Wizard of Oz writer too: L. Frank Baum’s initials are LFB. Spell it out and you get Elphaba. Enjoy London’s enchanting musical, packed with magic spells, wizards, and real dragons.

Wicked premiered in the West End in 2006, with original Broadway star Idina Menzel as Elphaba. It’s one of the longest-running musicals in London and continues to turn the West End green. But don’t be green with envy. Secure your tickets today.

What to Watch For

  • The Wicked soundtrack is out of this world. No, really! To wake up astronauts on a mission, NASA once played astronauts the song "Defying Gravity".
  • To make up Glinda’s bubble dress that she wears at the start of the show, 36 petals are featured, as well as 20 types of sequin. Nearly 100,000 sequins actually appear on the dress! In order to maintain the dress, it takes one person four hours, for four days a week to care for it.
  • In the history of Wicked in London, there is only one person to have played both the roles of Elphaba and Glinda — Louise Dearman, in 2012.
  • Wicked uses the “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” notes for “Unlimited / I’m Limited” during the show.
