This new one-woman musical at the Top of the Shelton in San Francisco captures Hallmark movies' endless romance, feel-good stories, and nostalgic magic. Eloise Coopersmith is the show’s executive producer, book writer, lyricist, and solo actor. Coopersmith collaborated with composer Roxanna Ward for the music. (Ward wrote Phyllis Hyman’s R&B single “Remember Who You Are,” which climbed Billboard’s jazz charts.)
My (Unauthorized) Hallmark Movie Musical! premiered at P3 Theatre Company in Long Beach in 2021 and is now in San Francisco for a limited time. This one-woman musical has a unique twist with eight supporting actors on a three-screen multimedia video who interact, sing, and dance with one live performer, Eloise Coopersmith. The eight actors on screen in the “Hallmark film” are Nina Herzog, Andrew Joseph Perez, Benjamin Perez, Monica Peña, Maggie Howell, Samantha Labrecque, Jim Blanchette, and Tess Adams.
Coopersmith is an award-winning writer and producer. She recently addressed difficult topics of dementia and caring for the elderly in the TV series Home for Mom that she produced in 2019.
What to Watch For
- Director Anne Runolfsson teamed up with her daughter Tess Adams for the production of My (Unauthorized) Hallmark Movie Musical! The mother/daughter duo has worked together before in a tribute to husband/father Tony Adams called The Story Goes On.
- My (Unauthorized) Hallmark Movie Musical! has an underlying message, much like its “authorized” Hallmark movie counterparts. Coopersmith encourages audiences to find their voices along with the struggling writer the musical centers around. Realizing the popularity of Hallmark, Coopersmith parodied the movies and used their classic themes to share her positive message.
