Peter Allen was born in the outback Australian town of Tenterfield in 1944. He made his entertainment debut at the age of 5 impersonating Al Jolson. As a teenager he became a pop star and then toured Asia. There he met Judy Garland who took him to London where he met and become engaged to her daughter Liza Minnelli. In the US Peter enjoyed the highs of success by winning an Oscar, selling out performances in Radio City Music Hall, and receiving adulation when he returned to Australia. There were also plenty of lows… breaking up with his wife, staging a Broadway flop, the death of his partner and his own battle with illness.
The Boy from Oz leaps, as does Peter himself, from past to present and back to past all within the familiar context of one of his energy packed concerts.
The entrance to the main auditorium is up two levels. There is a staff-operated lift to the first level and then a stairclimber for wheelchair users and those who require no or limited steps to the next level. Please make yourself known to staff if you or someone you’re attending with require its usage.
Please note that the stair climber has a weight limit of 150kgs so may not be suitable for large motorized wheelchairs or scooters.
Seats J6 – 9 and J44-47 are best for those that require flat entry as there is room for wheelchair users to either transfer to those seats or remain in their wheelchair, please note if remaining in a wheelchair or mobility device, a ticket holder may be asked to position themselves in between the front and rear forums, which is considered a bay or space rather than part of the seating bank.
In this instance, a free-standing chair is available to be placed next to a person using a wheelchair or mobility aide.
These seats are available to book online or over the phone, however we do encourage you to discuss with the venue first, especially if it’s your first time visiting The National Theatre. You can reach out to them by calling 9525 4611 or email boxoffice@nationaltheatre.org.au to book these seats or if you have any questions about the stairclimber and access.
