About Purpose
See Purpose at Geffen Playhouse. Direct from Broadway, this 2025 Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize–winning play makes its LA debut with the original Broadway cast, directed by the incomparable Phylicia Rashad. Step into the home of the legendary Jasper family, stacked with civil rights activists, politicians, pastors, and revolutionary leaders who have shaped Black culture. When the youngest son returns home with an uninvited friend in tow, instincts kick in to protect their public image of leadership and moral authority.
Get Purpose tickets in LA and prepare for a family drama unlike any other. Both intimate and epic, Purpose is provocative, often hilarious, and ultimately a devastating exploration of legacy and the cost of believing in something bigger than yourself. The cast features Tony Award winner Kara Young, as well as Harry Lennix, Jon Michael Hill, and Glenn Davis each Tony nominated for their powerful performances.
