In 2013, an up-and-coming Daniil Trifonov made his Hollywood Bowl debut with a powerful performance of Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto. The Los Angeles Times recalled “He crouched low over the keys with a lean, hungry look…definitely a performer made for the big video screens.” Twelve years later, Trifonov teams up with Grammy Award–winning conductor Daniel Harding for a highly anticipated reprise of this immensely popular concerto.
In the second half of the evening, Harding leads the gorgeously heartfelt Second Symphony—one of the pieces that helped restore Rachmaninoff’s confidence after years of writer’s block, depression, and stress caused by his first symphony’s disastrous premiere.
