Wynton Marsalis is known for breaking down musical boundaries with his distinct style, advanced thinking, and affinity for experimentation. One of today’s most ambitious composers, he presents a brand-new concerto that showcases the virtuosity of the entire orchestra. Alisa Weilerstein, who plays “as if in a state of near rapture, absorbing every tiny 16th-note bit of the score,” (Los Angeles Times), returns to the Hollywood Bowl for a dazzling performance of Dvořák’s earthy and dynamic cello showpiece. Calling it the ultimate concerto, Weilerstein says, “It has all the structuring and epic sweep of a symphony. It goes from ecstasy to tragedy to pathos. And every time out, there’s something new to discover.”
