The 10 Things We Love About Disney’s Freaky Friday
Ever felt like switching bodies with a parent? Yeah, us neither. But thanks to Disney’s Freaky Friday, you can learn all of the valuable life lessons without actually waking up as dear old mom or dad!
Based on a 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers, the first Freaky Friday film came out in 1976, followed by perhaps an even more memorable remake starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in 2003. Fortunately for us, a new musical incarnation of the film from the writers of Next to Normal is now making its world premiere at Signature Theatre in Arlington, starring Broadway’s Heidi Blickenstaff and Emma Hunton.
While we eagerly await photos and videos from the musical premiere of Disney’s Freaky Friday at Signature Theatre, we decided to throw it back to the golden age of 2003 with ten unforgettable moments from the beloved film.
Here are ten times we fell in love about this age-old tale of walking in someone else’s shoes.
1. The teenage angst.
We’ve all been there. Whether you spent your teenage years getting chunky highlights and wearing a choker necklace or whether you had another *~individual style~*, it’s unlikely that any of us escaped the earth-shattering angst that comes with being a teen.
2. That #sideeye.
This timeless glance has existed between mothers and daughters since the dawn of time.
3. … And this one.
What can we say? Life is hard.
4. This piece of cinematic history.
5. The epic collision that doesn’t go as planned.
Because who hasn’t bewilderedly walked in on your mom and sister body-slamming each other?
6. This guy…
You may recognize him from Sex and the City, but Willie Garson’s Freaky Friday performance was nothing short of inspired.
7. This great parental advice.
Classic Mom Talk.
8. Being serenaded by Chad Michael Murray.
So bad, yet so good.
9. The fortune cookie that made it all happen.
****a journey soon begins, its prize reflected in another’s eyes. When what you see is what you lack, then selfless love will change you back****
10. And finally, when they see things from the other’s perspective.
And just as wonderful, they each got better hairstyles along the way.
