7 Things to Do in San Francisco in August 2018
It’s Comedy Month, y’all! That means you can get exclusive deals to some of San Francisco’s hottest hilarity joints. (The TodayTix Comedy Pass gives you 25% off tickets to all comedy shows for the month of August, hint, hint.) Some of our favorites this month are Desi Comedy Fest, the biggest South Asian comedy festival in the U.S., and Best of SF Stand-up Comedy, a lineup of some of the best emerging talent in the city. Who knows? You might just see the next Margaret Cho or Patton Oswalt.
Beach Blanket Babylon
We know, this show is on your list and you keep meaning to get to it, but now is the perfect time to finally see the world’s longest running musical revue. So make time to venture over to Club Fugazi and laugh out loud at this pop-culture-filled, topical show that’s constantly updated to respond the today’s headliens. Make sure to make time to hang out around North Beach before or after the show. We recommend checking out Caffe Roma for coffee, Trattoria Contadina for pasta, and Victoria Pastry Co. for dessert.
See a drag show
When it comes to drag queens, San Francisco is essentially the capital. And who better to go drag than “Sex and the City’s” fab four. You’ll experience Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha like you’ve never see them before in “Sex and the City: Live!” Get ready to sip cosmos, dish over brunch, and wear some very high Manolo Blahnik heels. Drag stars D’Arcy Drollinger, Sue Casa, Lady Bear and Steven LeMay bring these iconic characters to life.
Did someone say food trucks? Did someone say all the food trucks? That’s right: Off the Grid is the largest gathering of food trucks of its kind in the U.S. so you’ll never run out of delicious dining options. Stop by Fort Mason Center every Friday from 5PM-10PM until Oct. 26 for this free event. (You can buy a VIP tasting ticket for $25.) Make sure to stop by the central beer garden, and check out the DJs.
Party like a tee-totaler.
Jump in your time machine (you have one, right?) and travel back in time to the 1920s, where Prohibition was the law and underground bars reigned supreme. Welcome to The Speakeasy, an immersive theatrical experience where you get to choose your own adventure. Dress in your best flapper skirt or cloche hat (dress code is optional on weekdays and enforced on Saturdays), and indulge in this sumptuous and surprising world. Even the location is a surprise – but we can tell you it’ll be in the North Beach neighborhood.
Take in a baseball game.
Whether you like sports or not, a visit to AT&T Park is a requisite summer activity. Visit the edible garden, where you can sit among the fresh herbs, or take a ride down the Coca Cola slide (not just for kids!). Or sure, you can watch a baseball game or something.
Eat all the cheese at the Ferry Building.
The Ferry Building is one of our favorite places in the city. It’s right on the water with clutch views of the bay, but the real treasure trove of gourmet goodies is inside. Pick up a cup of Blue Bottle Coffee and just sample snacks from all the stores, from Cowgirl Creamery to Acme Bread Company to Beekind. Bonus: It’s not far from AT&T Park so you can pick up some snacks and bring them to a game.
