‘Hadestown’ and ‘The Ferryman’ Win Top Tony Awards

“Hadestown” and “The Ferryman” won Best Musical and Best Play respectively at the 2019 Tony Awards. The musical adaptation of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth took home eight awards, including awards for direction of a musical and best score, and “The Ferryman” won four awards, including director of a play.

Stephanie J. Block won the Tony Award for lead actress of a musical for her performance in “The Cher Show,” while Santino Fontana won for lead actor of a musical for “Tootsie.” Brian Cranston and Elaine May won the lead actor in a play categories for “Network” and “The Waverly Gallery” respectively.
