Must-See Off-Broadway Shows Opening This August
There are still a few shows opening before these last weeks of summer come to an end, so make sure to check out these exciting Off-Broadway productions before fall rolls around!
If you’ve ever had a flight delayed for an indefinite amount of time on a holiday, this is the play for you. The Layover is Leslye Headland’s world premiere play about two people stuck in an airport on Thanksgiving night. There will be a daily rush on TodayTix, with $30 tickets available beginning at 10:00am the morning of each performance.The Layover runs until September 18.
Touch- Begins August 18 at 59E59
Toni Press- Koffman’s Touch tells the story of an astronomer questioning his existence in the wake of a tragedy, and searching for the hope that will get him through. Directed by Nathaniel Shaw, this production runs through September 4 at 59E59.
Following its acclaimed world premiere at Berkeley Rep, Julia Cho’s Aubergine makes its New York debut at Playwrights Horizons this month. A heartfelt story in which different characters prepare meals for their loved ones, and discover something about themselves in the process. Aubergine runs through October 2.
Marie and Rosetta- Begins August 24 at Atlantic Theater Company’s Linda Gross Theater
Marie and Rosetta is a world premiere play with music about the life of Sister Rosetta Tharpe and her protégée Marie Knight. Kecia Lewis and Rebecca Naomi Jones star as the impassioned musical duo, which is slated to run until October 2.
