All the 'Back to the Future' movie moments on stage

Great Scott! Back to the Future is on the stage. The film’s screenwriters Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale have adapted their story for the stage, which features music by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard alongside iconic hits from the movie including “The Power of Love.” So make sure you’ve got your skateboard and flux capacitor and are ready to travel through time with Doc Brown and Marty McFly.

The film is packed with so many iconic moments and lines, and here are just a few that we can’t wait to see realised onstage.

The DeLorean

Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads. Okay, so this isn’t so much a moment as the crux of the entire film, and we’re sure the theatrics of musical theatre time travel are going to be one for the ages.

From the initial parking lot car chase that leads to Marty’s time travel back to 1955 to the stroke of lightning that sends him into the present, the time machine looks incredible on stage. We hope the flux capacitor and plutonium supply are all set.

The Enchantment Under the Sea Dance

This scene is already ripe for a musical, as the Hill Valley high schoolers sway along to “Earth Angel” and have their musical worlds shattered by Marty’s performance of “Johnny B. Goode.” Both songs are also in the musical, so we’re certain to get some retro magic.

But the main question here is: How is Marty going to start to disappear onstage? The show’s illusionist Chris Fisher has some tricks up his sleeve and you'll have to see Back to the Future to find out more.

The Clock Tower

The clock tower’s time might not have changed time in 30 years — ever since it was struck by lightning in 1955 — but we can’t wait to see how the climactic scene evolves for the stage. Will Doc Brown still dangle from the clock, attempting to reconnect the power cable? Will Marty still drive the DeLorean at 88 mile per hour to make sure the lightning strikes at the exact right second? There's gigawatts of power behind it.

Doc’s Laboratory

Designing Doc Brown’s clock-filled nuclear physics laboratory is candy for any set or production designer. From exploding amps to television sets to a never-ending supply of time-telling devices, the design will be a feast for the eyes.

Marty’s Skateboard

Okay so the skateboard isn’t so much a scene as a way of life for Marty, but we can’t wait to see how his set of wheels translates to the show’s choreography and staging. Does Marty grab car bumpers to travel through Hill Valley? Or will he narrowly escape Biff and his cronies on his trusty set of four wheels? Either way, Marty has major moves.
