How to Party Like Royalty in Houston for the Broadway Princess Party
Come join the party, the princess party! The Broadway Princess Party is coming to Improv Houston on Oct. 13, with Laura Osnes (“Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella”), Susan Egan (“Beauty and the Beast” on Broadway), and Courtney Reed (“Aladdin” on Broadway).
Houston native and special guest Stephanie Styles will join the trio for the concert. Styles played Katherine in the first national tour of Disney’s “Newsies” and Princess Ann in the pre-Broadway engagement of “Roman Holiday.”
We asked Styles to share her favorite places around Houston the party like a princess and prepare for the show!
Tiny Boxwood’s / Tiny’s No. 5
This is a quaint, modern, and charming café with two locations in Houston. Their menu is full of fresh salads, sandwiches, and soups along with their famous brunch. I love their “Orange Julia” beverage (appropriate for both queens and princesses) and their Morning Quinoa. Don’t forget to grab one of their famous chocolate chip cookies on the way out!
Isle Pedi Spa
The greatest pedicure I’ve ever had! They have an entire menu of different pedicures with various flavors and scents including Vanilla Latte, Honey Mandarin, Cooling Cucumber, and Chocolate Covered Strawberry. I always get the Coconut Milk pedicure! They even have a “Princess” pedicure for young girls.
Right by Isle Pedi Spa is Crave Cupcakes. They’re my favorite cupcakes! I love their vanilla on vanilla, caramel apple cupcake, and strawberry cupcake. They even have sugar-free, gluten-free, and vegan options for the princesses out there with dietary restrictions.
Alice in Wonderland statue in Evelyn’s Park
Did you know there’s an interactive Alice in Wonderland statue in Houston? I didn’t either until I happened upon it recently. It’s my favorite spot for pictures in Houston. The sculptor hid over 150 different Wonderland allusions in the piece. And since Alice is Wonderland royalty, it’d be the proper princess thing to do to pay her a visit!
Kendra Scott Jewelry Store
Need a little extra sparkle to go with your ballgown? Kendra Scott is one of the most popular Southern jewelry designers and she has her own store in Rice Village. Her colorful designs are classic and I love their “design-your-own” bar where you can build, customize, and design your own jewelry.
My favorite restaurant in Texas is Backstreet Café. Housed in a 1930s cottage with beautiful camphor trees shading you from the Texas sun, you feel like you might spot one of Sleeping Beauty’s fairies or one of the seven dwarfs at any moment! Their menu is diverse and their food is delicious. I love their corn pudding, crab cakes, seasonal vegetarian platter, sangria, and re-imagined Arnold Palmer.
