Like many cities across the country, Chicago has had ongoing Covid-19 safety protocols in place for months as theatres have reopened. The League of Chicago Theatres oversees a coalition of Chicago-area theatres that have all agreed to a set of mask and vaccination requirements to ensure audiences’ safety. These protocols will be in effect through at least the end of 2021 and reevaluated at the end of the year.

These theatres, at minimum, require all performers and theatre staff to be vaccinated and have vaccination requirements in place for audiences. All audience members at these theatres must present a photo ID and proof of full Covid-19 vaccination, meaning that it has been 14 days since a one-dose vaccine or the second shot of a second-dose vaccine.

Exemptions are made if a patron has a medical condition or religious belief that prevents it. The coalition’s protocols require proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance or a negative antigen test taken within 6 hours of the performance. Now that a vaccine has been approved for children under 12, those audience members can present proof of vaccination, but many theatres still allow young children to present a negative test instead.

In addition, the coalition requires all audiences to be masked at all times. Other specific protocols may vary by venue. The full protocols and list of participating theatres are available here.

Below are details on vaccination and mask requirements at Chicago-area theatres, as well as additional Covid-19 safety protocols each theatre has in place. These may include social distancing, ventilation, increased cleaning, and more. You can purchase tickets to shows at all the below venues on TodayTix.
