Grace Jones is a once-in-a-generation force of nature – a singer, actress, model, author and uncompromising creative whose influence has shaped music, fashion and culture for more than four decades. Emerging from New York and Paris in the early 1970s, she quickly became a commanding presence within the city’s underground scene, crowned a disco icon and celebrated as a boundary-breaking figure of queer and artistic liberation.
Her early collaborations with visionary artists including Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Jean-Paul Goude cemented her status as a revolutionary aesthetic force, while her fearless performances at Studio 54 and beyond announced a new era of glamour, provocation and creative freedom.
In the 1980s, Jones reinvented herself once again, stepping beyond disco to pioneer a hybrid sound that fused reggae, house, new wave and electronica. Her seminal Compass Point trilogy – Warm Leatherette, Nightclubbing and Living My Life – remains some of the most influential pop music ever recorded, producing classics including “Pull Up to the Bumper” and “My Jamaican Guy”.
Appearing at the inaugural On the Banks series, Grace Jones brings her iconic, ever-evolving artistry to the heart of the city.
Grace Jones will be joined by New York’s The Illustrious Blacks, the Afro-Electro-Disco-Space-Punks who turn every dancefloor into a spectacle.
