Debussy and Ravel presented by Sydney Symphony Orchestra
About Debussy and Ravel
The Sydney Symphony Orchestra takes a voyage into the Impressionistic music of Debussy and Mendelssohn, alongside Ravel’s dazzling work for piano.
Maurice Ravel’s chic piano concerto is the perfect vehicle for our virtuoso soloist Alexandra Dariescu. Ravel’s concerto is dazzling on the outside, but at its core is a slow movement of delicate grace and breathtaking beauty.
Felix Mendelssohn was so impressed by his trip to the Scottish Hebridean islands that he wrote The Hebrides, a musical landscape of rolling waves, seagulls and whale oil. Another painter in sound, Claude Debussy captured the soul of the sea in the three symphonic sketches of La mer, brisk and glinting or dangerously surging. Debussy sets sail on a sea of his imagination – full of light and air.
Hear these three masterworks live, in the brilliant Sydney Town Hall.
