About Italian Opera Gala

Moving drama meets electrifying music as a host of Australian stars and conductor Donald Runnicles join the Sydney Symphony Orchestra to bring you the greatest moments of Italian opera.

The most lyrical of the Romance languages, Italian has always been the language of choice for Opera, and Italian composers have been its greatest advocates. Opera flourished on the stages of 19th-century Italy as composers like Rossini, Donizetti and Giuseppe Verdi matched dramatic stories with thrilling music, and composed some of the greatest tunes ever written.

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra has brought together four stars of European Opera – Siobhan Stagg, Vasilisa Berzhanskaya, Samuel Sakker and Derek Welton – to perform some of the great moments of Italian Opera, by Verdi, Puccini, Rossini and more.
