Extended Play at City Recital Hall
About Extended Play
Extended Play is back in 2019!
The inaugural event last year was hailed as “the best new classical music initiative Sydney has seen in years” (The Australian), and an “exhilarating festival, wonderfully supportive of local artists and ensembles, emerging talent and an audience eager to engage” (Real Time). This is a spectacular program jam-packed with 12 hours of eclectic, contemporary, and dynamic new music across the entire four floors of the venue.
This year, Extended Play features leading contemporary music performers from Australia and beyond – including the fierce Synergy with Polymorphic Orkestra, the innovative Decibel New Music, the imaginative Sonya Lifschitz and Christine Johnston, and more. With music from your favourite avant-garde composers (George Crumb, John Cage, Liza Lim, Thomas Adès) and new undiscovered contemporary composers, you will re-discover the wonder of music-making on every level of City Recital Hall.
Start from noon for a marathon of concerts, or come in and out throughout the day for the performances you can't miss. However you plan your day, make time to see Margaret Leng Tan in the auditorium for her long-awaited Sydney debut and discover why she's dubbed the "queen of the toy piano" by The New York Times.
