Dêmos Krátos Theátro: Plays by and for the People
About Dêmos Krátos Theátro
Called a “Vaudeville for Millennials,” three one-act plays are paired with new satirical songs and classical clowning performances, drawing inspiration from Ancient Greece, the birthplace of Democracy and Theatre.
Conceived by Artistic Director Maryssa Wanlass, "Dêmos Krátos Theátro" pulls together the talents of Bay Area playwrights Cleavon Smith, Carol Lashof, Kenneth Heaton, and live satirical music of singer-songwriter Lauren Mayer. Their stories examine the issues of democratic engagement, turning their lens on our current political climate, political organizing, voter suppression and voter apathy. They are joined by the classical clowning work of Amelia Adams.
