About Geneva Camerata

The “take no prisoners” (Gramophone) Swiss ensemble Geneva Camerata makes its US debut with Dance of the Sun, a revolutionary, one-of-a-kind event.

Straying from the demeanor of a usual orchestra concert, Juan Kruz Díaz de Garaio Esnaola has devised choreography for dancer Martí Corbera and for the entire ensemble, who perform in motion while playing the music from memory. On the first half of the Dance of the Sun program is a Suite drawn from Lully’s music for Molière’s legendary play The Bourgeois Gentleman, which satirizes both the pretensions of the middle class and the trappings of the aristocracy. After intermission, Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 is transformed by Mr. Garaio Esnaola into a commentary on the nature of life and of mortality.
