About Stabat Mater

From an achingly beautiful psalm crying for mercy to the devastating hymn of a mother’s anguish, Scottish composer James MacMillan draws upon his Celtic heritage and Catholic faith for revelatory choral works that tap into our universal humanity. This program, performed by the Britten Sinfonia and The Sixteen, under the baton of Harry Christophers, features the U.S. premieres of MacMillan's haunting Miserere and his monumental new Stabat Mater. The first musical work ever to be streamed live from the Sistine Chapel, this Stabat Mater is being hailed as a modern masterpiece.
