Jack of Cups
About Jack of Cups
Long after the flood, a stranger, queerer, more loving world has sprouted from the sodden rubble and ruins. Once a year, communities make the perilous pilgrimage to a barren island for the Remembrance Festival. Amidst the food and drink and games, the people of Mother Ocean are visited by a legendary wanderer who comes to revive their post-apocalyptic creation myth.
Jack of Cups is a play about learning to both fully feel grief for our future while finding hopeful, durable imagination for what comes after. It is a story about the power of story. And community. And recycling. Jack of Cups by Gabriel Rodriguez makes its world premiere at The Flea. Direction by Madeline Wall and Rodriguez. Featuring original music by Lukas Papenfusscline. Performed by Rodriguez, Papenfusscline and Kayla Yee.
