About New Dances
See world premieres commissioned by and created for the Juilliard Dance Division by four of today’s preeminent choreographers. Marcus Jarrell Willis’ Quilt presents first-year dancers in a patchwork-themed piece inspired by 1970s interviews with women about quilting. Second-year dancers perform Nelly van Bommel’s Nadir, a flowing work exploring myriad music styles set against a 1950s backdrop. Juilliard alum Peter Chu returns to the school to work with third-year dancers in his Play Well With Others, an improvisational collaboration with Juilliard Jazz. The performance closes with fourth-year dancers in Stefanie Batten Bland’s Look Who’s Coming to Dinner, which is based on 1960s film and examines the themes of acceptance in love and in life.
