The Australian Ballet presents Harlequinade
Master choreographer Marius Petipa – whose works include Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote and La Bayadère – created Harlequinade, a sweet-hearted comedic romp, over one hundred years ago.
Premiering at New York’s Metropolitan Opera House in 2018, this extravagant 90-minute revival from the former director of the Bolshoi Ballet, Alexei Ratmansky, breathes new life into this cheeky, bubbly ballet with colourful characters, vivid sets and stunning costumes. Revel in the pure comedic joy of this classic ballet as Harlequin fights against the odds to win the heart of his true love, Columbine.
After his century-long sleep, the irrepressible Harlequin is wide awake and ready to charm ballet lovers of all ages in this Melbourne-exclusive season.
