About Cho-Liang Lin & Jon Kimura Parker

These spectacular virtuosi love playing together, and so we love to hear them. Alongside the technical wizardry, each is a busy teacher, mentor to emerging artists, and artistic director of festivals and competitions; and they’ve enlarged the repertoire with numerous commissions. Chamber music is vitally important to them, not least in this recital partnership of more than a decade.

For their long-awaited first recital tour of Australia, they premiere a sonata by Paul Stanhope, featured in both programs. In Program One this sits alongside two charming American miniatures and Lutosławski’s epic Partita; these works are bookended with particular favourites of the performers, from Dvorˇák and Brahms. Program 2 offers contrasting moods. Beethoven’s delightful sixth Violin Sonata was dedicated to Tsar Alexander I, making a neat if subtle pairing with Prokofiev’s powerful op 80. A Grand Duo from Liszt, that most charismatic composer, promises a flamboyant finale.
