Mozart, Haydn & More
About Mozart, Haydn & More
Charismatic Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto, Artistic Director of the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s ACO Collective, brings his wicked sense of humour to this special program at Melbourne Recital Centre.
For this tour, Pekka has built a unique program around Haydn’s Symphony No.47. Nicknamed “The Palindrome”, the Symphony’s minuet and trio is written so the second half of each mirrors its first.
Pekka further expands this palindromic theme by beginning and ending with Pauline Oliveros’s The Tuning Meditation, paired with movements from Haydn’s symphony.
After / before these works comes two new pieces from Heather Shannon, pianist of indie rock band The Jezabels, commissioned by the Australian Chamber Orchestra especially for this concert. Six Mozart dances and two sections from Hindemith’s Ludus Tonalis complete the unique journey.
