The Girl As Green As Elderflower
About The Girl As Green As Elderflower
This musical stage adaptation is based on the novel of the same name by multi-award winning, Australian-born Randolph Stow. It revolves around Cris Clare, who returns to his ancestral family in Suffolk, recovering from a mysterious illness. His fevered dreams are filled with the local folklore and soon the line between reality and myth blurs. This multi-layered story touches on xenophobia, misogyny, sexuality and mental illness in the changing UK seasons of 1961.
Mostly light-hearted and sentimental, this strange piece is also eerie, fragile and cruel, abounding with youthful characters inhabited by older souls.
