About Candice Carty-Williams

Candice Carty-Williams’ debut novel, Queenie, has shot to the top of the bestseller list and heralded her as a thrilling new voice for our times. A darkly comic and unflinchingly raw depiction of a young woman trying to navigate her way in the world, it’s become one of 2019’s must-reads.

Born in 1989, Candice worked in the media before moving into publishing, aged 23, to work for 4th Estate. In 2016, Candice created and launched the Guardian and 4th Estate BAME Short Story Prize.

Join Candice for an afternoon to hear how she came to write Queenie, and how we find new stories representing our lives and our city.
