Fantasia: Sounds & Sorcery
About Fantasia: Sounds & Sorcery
This summer the underground world of The Vaults presents a new immersive music concert experience
inspired by Disney Fantasia; Sounds and Sorcery.
Arrive at your destination underneath Waterloo station, collect your headphones at the door and step inside the tunnels. It's time for a dance with a funky hippo, walk in a prehistoric wasteland, seek out the fairies in a magical forest and, if you dare, sneak into the Sorcerer's lair.
Explore the space freely as each new tunnel reveals another stunning installation. Using cutting edge binaural sound recordings, 3D projection and light installation, the worlds of Disney Fantasia will be brought to life with musical sorcery.
This is a new, exhilarating and absorbing way of going to a concert, suitable for young and old; original fans and those who have never seen the film; let the sorcery begin!
"Not really a concert, not a vaudeville or a revue, but a grand mixture of comedy, fantasy, ballet, drama, impressionism, colour, sound and epic fury" - Walt Disney, 1941
This event is inspired by the original movie, but will not feature footage of the iconic film, nor will the original film be screened.
Tell Me More
Journey through an immersive, walk-through experience while listening to the music from Disney’s “Fantasia.” Grab a set of headphones and make your way through numerous scenes from the iconic film. From “The Sorcerer's Apprentice” to the “Nutcracker Suite,” recognisable moments from the award-winning 1940s film are recreated with a mixture of live action, dance, aerial silk, projections, and installations.
Step through the graffiti tunnels to see The Vaults completely transformed and follow the handy map to enjoy the stunning music at your own pace. You’ll find an erupting volcano, a frozen pond, waterfalls, and giant flowers along the self-led journey through various rooms and spaces. Give yourself plenty time to enjoy the areas at your own pace, but make sure to catch the set showtimes in a couple of the rooms. From Bach to Tchaikovsky, some of the most recognisable classical music from the film will guide you along, and incredible audio technology enables the music to change when you enter specific areas. Dive into this magical, multisensory experience and try something different.
What To Watch For
- The 96-piece City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra — under the musical direction of Stephen Higgins — was commissioned to create a new recording of the music for the experience, featuring eight diverse classical pieces from the original film.
- Visit the bar for unique cocktails and colour-changing gins.
- Don’t miss the exhibition at the end of the experience, which shows some interesting displays of technology used in animation, as well as the chance to try audio mixing and provide the soundtrack for the post-show bar area.
- The production at The Vaults, although not affiliated with the Walt Disney Company, coincides with the 90th birthday of the star of “Fantasia,” Mickey Mouse. You won’t find any sign of the famous mouse in any of the rooms, but don’t miss the photo opportunity with the giant Mickey ears.
