About ANDARES

Makuyeika Colectivo Teatral visits for one week only this October with stories from the country's most remote corners. Focusing on the experiences of three youths—one Maya, one Zapotecan, and one Wixarika—"Andares" crafts a vivid mosaic of indigenous life in México today. This intimate, moving portrait, told through ancestral myths, traditional music, and arts, denounces a present that seems intent upon destroying what was once held sacred. Presented as part of Destinos – Chicago International Latino Theater Festival, "Andares" is performed in multiple languages with projected English translation.
