About Testa Produce
Testa Produce is a 106-year-old family-owned and operated produce distributor. They serve restaurants, hotels, schools, country clubs, sporting arenas and hospitals from Wisconsin to central Illinois. Testa's LEED-Platinum refrigerated food service facility designed by Epstein was the first of its kind in the U.S. The warehouse features sustainable technologies including a 750-kilowatt wind turbine and solar panels that together produce an average of 35 percent of the building’s energy needs. Testa Produce also has a solar thermal hot water system for heating water; an extensive system that recovers rainwater for non-potable purposes; LED lighting and skylighting; a vegetated roof; and compressed natural gas (CNG) and bio-diesel delivery trucks.
Weather permitting, step onto the green roof to get a closer look at one of the few full-size wind turbines in Chicago—plus an uninterrupted view of the skyline.
Visitors should wear closed toe shoes for the tour of the site and remove any jewelry. Note that the tour is mostly in a refrigerated space so please dress accordingly.
