COT’s is the second professional production of Moby-Dick. It has previously been performed at Utah Opera, Opera San Jose, and Opera Pittsburgh. Following its run at Chicago Opera Theater, it will travel to Spain for a run at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
The opera was commissioned in 2005 by Dallas Opera in collaboration with San Francisco Opera, San Diego Opera, State Opera of South Australia, and Calgary Opera.
Dedicated to Stephen Sondheim, Moby-Dick had its world premiere at Dallas Opera on April 30th, 2010. That production, directed by Leonard Foglia, was produced by the co-commissioning companies as well as Washington National Opera and Los Angeles Opera.
