About Pretty Woman

Missing out on this romantic musical would be a big mistake. Big. Huge! Strut down Rodeo Drive and book Pretty Woman: The Musical tickets on TodayTix.

We first met tough-talking woman Vivian Ward and unhappy billionaire businessman Edward Lewis in 1990, when the Julia Roberts and Richard Gere-starring romcom became a huge hit with cinemagoers. The film made a superstar of Roberts, who was nominated for an Academy Award and won a Golden Globe for her role.

Now, the Pretty Woman musical gives us a refreshed version of that modern fairy tale, thanks to a new book co-written by the movie’s screenwriter JF Lawson and director Garry Marshall. The show also features an original 1980s-style pop-rock score by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, giving new voice to the characters’ inner lives. London Theatre praised the “happy, feel good vibes,” and that “you’ll walk out on a high.”

The hugely popular stage adaptation of the iconic movie, Pretty Woman features all your favourite scenes, lines, outfits and songs from the original film – plus spectacular new additions, and a score by Grammy winner Bryan Adams. The feel-good Pretty Woman London production now runs at the glamorous Savoy Theatre, directed by the Tony Award-winning Jerry Mitchell.

See the pair fall in love – and relive one of the most empowering shopping sprees ever.

More information about Pretty Woman

The Pretty Woman musical first opened in Chicago in 2018 and transferred to Broadway later that year. Samantha Barks led the original Broadway cast, alongside Andy Karl as Edward, Orfeh as Vivian’s friend Kit De Luca, and Eric Anderson as hotel manager Mr Thompson.

Aimie Atkinson, who played Daniela in In the Heights and originated the role of Katherine Howard in Six, stars as Vivian. Danny Mac originated the role of Edward Lewis in London, with Oliver Tompsett as Edward Lewis from 4 Apr. 2023.

The cast is in the very safe hands of Broadway legend Jerry Mitchell, who has won two Tony Awards: for his choreography in La Cage aux Folles, and for directing Kinky Boots. His other Broadway hits include Hairspray, The Rocky Horror Show, Gypsy, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Legally Blonde: The Musical, and On Your Feet!. Mitchell is renowned for incorporating glorious choreography into his shows, and Pretty Woman is no exception.

What to Watch For:

  • Superfans will spot plenty of callbacks to the movie, reimagined for this musical version of Pretty Woman – like Vivian and Edward’s sophisticated date at the opera, which plays in an interesting new way in this live theatrical setting. Plus: that opera, La Traviata, has notable parallels with the main story.
  • We also have a rather different view of relationships now. Look out for the subtle changes to the plot that give Vivian more agency as a character, and for the songs that allow her to express herself – while still allowing us all to enjoy the Pretty Woman fantasy.
  • Do you have a favourite look from the original movie? Costume designer Gregg Barnes has brilliantly re-created plenty of them here, such as Vivian’s initial outfit (yes, including those PVC boots and the blonde wig) or the plunging red gown and white gloves for the opera.
  • As well as the score from Bryan Adams, you might hear a very familiar song: Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman”. It was actually Orbison’s song that inspired the title of the movie, so having it as part of the musical brings the project’s whole story full circle.
