More information about The Donkey Show

Do you have disco fever? “The Donkey Show” at American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Mass., just might have the cure. This disco-infused adaptation of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” takes audiences on a wild, immersive journey through the magic and fairy-filled story — all the way to the dance floor. There are mirror balls, roller skaters, hustle queens, and lots of glitter, all underscored by ‘70s disco hits. After the show, the dance party continues into the night. Trust us, you haven’t seen the Bard this way before.

“The Donkey Show” was conceived by Randy Weiner, the producer behind the immersive show “Sleep No More,” and co-created with Tony Award-winning director Diane Paulus. “The Donkey Show” ran off Broadway in New York City from 1999 and 2005, and was revived at American Repertory Theater in 2009 when Paulus began there as artistic director. It has become an absolute must-see and fixture of the Cambridge theater scene.

What to watch for

The performance space features a dance floor and a bar.
