Hailed by The New York Times as “one of the most important choreographers working today,” Trey McIntyre returns to Smuin to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love in an energetic exploration of dance and the creative process. This new piece will be inspired by a historic moment in time that shaped San Francisco and its culture for generations. McIntyre was last seen here when commissioned by Smuin to create his lauded Oh, Inverted World, a piece set to music of indie-rock band The Shins.
Also on the program is Choreographer in Residence Amy Seiwert’s Broken Open, which was declared “fresh, challenging and relevant“ by the San Francisco Chronicle when it debuted in 2015. Broken Open is set to the music of cellist and composer Julia Kent.
