About Sandra

In this new one-woman thriller from David Cale, which reunites the creative team of the acclaimed Vineyard production Harry Clarke, Sandra seeks to get to the bottom of the mysterious disappearance of her closest friend, a young pianist and composer, who went on a trip to Mexico and never returned. Her search for clues leads her into both a highly charged love affair, and increasingly dangerous territory. Featuring an original piano score by Matthew Dean Marsh, direction by Obie Award-winning director Leigh Silverman, and starring Marjan Neshat (Selling Kabul and English), Sandra asks how far would you go for love?

More information about Sandra

The one-woman thriller Sandra, starring Marjan Neshat, comes to Vineyard Theatre this fall. Get Sandra tickets on TodayTix.

Sandra is a play that follows the title character as she goes on a search for her missing best friend. She disappeared while traveling to Mexico, and Sandra's quest to find him leads her into danger and romance all at once. The missing friend is a pianist and composer, so Sandra off Broadway is set to original piano music, a homage to the character even though he's not on stage.

Playwright David Cale's last Off-Broadway show was Harry Clarke in 2018, which won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Solo Show. That play, starring Billy Crudup, was also at Vineyard Theatre and later at the Minetta Lane Theatre.

Director Leigh Silverman has worked extensively on and off Broadway, with her Broadway credits including The Lifespan of a Fact, Violet, and Grand Horizons. Last season, she directed Suffs at The Public Theater and The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe, starring Cecily Strong, at The Shed.

Matthew Dean Marsh composed the piano score that accompanies Sandra in New York.

Tickets to Sandra off Broadway are available on TodayTix now.

What to Watch For

  • Sandra is Cale and Marsh's second show together; they also co-wrote the award-winning We’re Only Alive for A Short Amount of Time.
  • Silverman and Cale have also collaborated on a one-person show before: Silverman directed Harry Clarke.
  • Neshat appeared in three Off-Broadway shows last season: Selling Kabul, English, and Wish You Were Here.
