At a skin cancer clinic in NYC (not the famous one), patients wait to find out how much of themselves they’re about to lose.
Award-winning playwright Gracie Gardner makes her Off-Broadway debut with I'm Revolting. Get I'm Revolting tickets on TodayTix.
The I'm Revolting play takes place over the course of one day, when multiple patients and their loved ones are passing time in the waiting room of a skin care clinic. They're all going to be called in one by one. None of them want to be called in. Whether they have skin cancer or are just there as a support system, being called in means getting news that they're about to lose a part of themselves, figuratively or literally. In the meantime, they chat with each other, and their conversations make I'm Revolting into a dark comedy. They commiserate about what it's like to not know what's going on with your own body, not know how to help someone in that position, and/or have to deal with others who don't get what it's like.
Gardner first came onto the map with her play Pussy Sludge, the winner of the 2017 Relentless Award for fearless and innovative playwriting established in honor of Philip Seymour Hoffman. I'm Revolting also had its first reading in 2017 with the theatre company Less Than Rent. Atlantic Theater Company's staging of I'm Revolting off Broadway marks the show's first full-fledged production.
The 10-person ensemble cast includes multiple Broadway favorites. Gabby Beans was a 2022 Tony nominee for The Skin of Our Teeth, Patrick Vaill was a 2019 Drama Desk nominee for that year's acclaimed Oklahoma! revival, and Portia was most recently seen in Aaron Sorkin's To Kill a Mockingbird stage adaptation.
