The My Son’s a Queer play sees Madge share childhood tales of putting on shows in their house, as well as anecdotes from school, holidays, and innuendo-filled jokes. You’ll laugh along with Rob at their young, unabashed self, and you’ll cry at the heartfelt tales shared throughout this 75-minute show.
London Theatre raved about the show, saying: “The material is bound to resonate in all sorts of ways, and it’s the little show that could. Rob Madge has now turned their life-to-date into a 75-minute celebration of being your best and truest self.”
When Rob was twelve, they attempted to stage a Disney parade in their house. As Rob donned wigs and makeup to transform into Disney princesses, their dad took on the stage manager and sound technician roles, with a Goofy hat for good measure.
Unfortunately, Dad missed all his cues and pushed all the floats in the wrong direction. But it wasn't about putting on the "best" show. It was all about nurturing a child's interest.
My Son's a Queer is nominated for Best Entertainment or Comedy at the 2023 Olivier Awards.
