About Glory Ride

Heists, humour, and humanity collide in spectacular fashion at Glory Ride, the historical cycling story for a generation. Get on your bikes and pedal to the Charing Cross Theatre and book Glory Ride tickets on TodayTix.

Glory Ride in London returns after concert performances at The Other Palace. Theatre Weekly raved about the early showings, praising the “delightful and warm-hearted score.” Now, the compelling, inspirational musical will take on a new endurance test with its Off West End premiere.

In the Glory Ride musical, you’ll discover how a local hero became a national icon. The show celebrates what it means to be brave in testing times, and the importance of doing the right thing, whatever the consequences.

Gino Bartali lived a double life. Not only was he an Italian athlete and Tour de France winner, he also used his cycling career as a cover to save thousands of lives. While travelling across Italy, he hid false identity cards and secret documents in his bike, all to help victims escape Mussolini’s fascist regime.

More information about Glory Ride

Bartali’s story within World War Two is inspiring. Throughout the musical, you’ll learn how Bartali’s cycling adventures transformed thousands of lives. In September 2013, Yad Vashem recognised Gino Bartali as a “Righteous Among the Nations”. Glory Ride also focuses on influential figures in Bartali’s life: race partner turned Blackshirt Mario Carita, love interest Adriana, and brothers Cosmo and Lorenzo.

Father and daughter team, Victoria and Todd Buchholz, write Glory Ride. After workshops in New York and Los Angeles, as well as staged concerts in London, this engagement marks the first full production. Enjoy new musical theatre in London.

What to Watch For:

  • During Gino Bartali’s professional career, he won the Giro d’Italia — Italy’s premier bicycle race — in 1936, 1937, and 1946. He also won the Tour de France in 1938 and 1948.
  • Bartali caught the cycling bug while working in a bicycle shop as a teenager. At 13, he started racing. By 21, he was a professional cyclist.
  • While racing, he gained the nickname “Gino the Pious” due to his devout Catholic views. After Bartali’s death, two days of mourning followed.
  • Come From Away choreographer Kelly Devine directs.
