About The Seagull

Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) makes her West End debut as Nina in Anya Reiss’ unique 21st century modernisation of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, with direction by Jamie Lloyd. Starring alongside Clarke will be Tom Rhys Harries (White Lines), Daniel Monks (The Normal Heart), Sophie Wu (Fresh Meat) and Indira Varma (Game of Thrones).

A young woman is desperate for fame and a way out. A young man is pining after the woman of his dreams. A successful writer longs for a sense of achievement. An actress wants to fight the changing of the times. In an isolated home in the countryside where dreams are in tatters, hopes dashed, hearts broken and there is nowhere left to turn, the only option is to turn on each other.

Following on from the return of the critically-acclaimed, five-star production of Cyrano de Bergerac, The Jamie Lloyd Company brings Chekhov’s tale of love and loneliness to the Harold Pinter Theatre from 29 June for 11 weeks only.

Tell Me More

Emilia Clarke returns to the West End to play Nina in The Seagull this summer. After performances were cancelled at the Playhouse Theatre in March 2020, The Seagull is now at the Harold Pinter Theatre. Book The Seagull tickets in London on TodayTix.

During The Seagull, questions arise about personal decisions impeding upon professional lives. It’s tricky to find a healthy work/life balance, but in order to achieve your wildest ambitions, sometimes life-changing decisions have to be made and friendships must be sacrificed. The Seagull is a tale of ambition, love, and loneliness, and when there’s nowhere else to turn, people may need to turn on each other.

The Seagull was originally scheduled as part of the Jamie Lloyd season at the Playhouse Theatre. Now, that season is receiving a second engagement now at the Harold Pinter Theatre, along with Cyrano de Bergerac starring James McAvoy. Book The Seagull tickets in London on TodayTix.

What to Watch For

  • Emilia Clarke plays Nina in The Seagull. The Game of Thrones actress is no stranger to theatrical productions. In 2013, she played Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s on Broadway.
  • Many of The Seagull cast who appeared in the 2020 production will continue in performances this summer. Further casting includes Tom Rhys Harries, Daniel Monks, and Indira Varma.
  • The original The Seagull play was written in Russian. However, The Seagull London performances will be staged in English, and is adapted by Anya Reiss.
  • Unlike previous adaptations, The Seagull London revival is a modern take on a 19th-century classic. Anya Reiss’ adaptation of The Seagull premiered a decade ago, starring Lily James as Nina. Clearly the role has attracted big stars!
  • Jamie Lloyd directs The Seagull at the Harold Pinter Theatre. Lloyd has been at the helm of numerous star-studded productions, including Evita, Betrayal and the Pinter at the Pinter season.
