2. The Gulf at Signature Theatre

A couple gets stranded in the Alabama Delta when their boat breaks down, leaving them to face the realities of their less than perfect relationship. The Gulf is running from now through November 6 at Signature’s ARK Theatre.

3. The Little Foxes at Arena Stage

Lillian Hellman’s classic play The Little Foxes about the greed of one family comes to Arena Stage this fall from September 23 through October 30.

4. Romeo and Juliet at Shakespeare Theatre Company

The ultimate tale of star- crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet is currently playing at the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Lansburgh Theatre now until October 30.

5. The Diary of Anne Frank at Olney Theatre Center

The play based on the book that allowed the world to see the holocaust through the eyes of a young girl. The Diary of Anne Frank runs September 14 through October 23 at Olney Theatre Center.

6. Dante’s Inferno at Synetic Theatre

“Abandon all hope ye who enter here!” Travel through the nine circles of hell with Synetic Theatre’s production of Dante’s Inferno running from September 28 through October 30.

7. Lobby Hero at 1st Stage

Lobby Hero is Kenneth Lonergan’s 2001 drama about a down on his luck security guard who becomes involved in a murder investigation. Running now until October 9.

8. I Call My Brothers at Forum Theatre

Inspired by the Stockholm terrorist attacks of 2010, this play follows a young man amidst the chaos. I Call My Brothers is running now through October 1 at the Silver Spring Black Box Theatre.

9. What We’re Up Against at The Keegan Theatre

Theresa Rebeck’s play What We’re Up Against involves a “battle of the sexes” when a woman at an architectural firm decides she has had enough of the glass ceiling. From September 24 through October 15 at the Andrew Keegan Theatre.

When a young life is cut short by violence, a community must confront what is much more than just another headline. Don’t miss brownsville song (b-side for Tray) September 15 through October 9 at Anacostia Playhouse.

11. Cloud 9 at Studio Theatre

This bold take on sexual politics challenges time, gender and genre. See Cloud 9 at the Metheny Theatre through October 16.

12. Sense and Sensibility at Folger Theatre

The stage adaption of the classic Jane Austen novel that examines the clash between reason and passion, at the Folger Theatre through October 16.

13. The Last Schwartz at Theater J

This absurd but thoughtful comedy by Deborah Zoe Laufer follows a family’s dysfunction in the year following their father’s death. The Last Schwartz runs through October 2 at Theater J.

14. Satchmo at the Waldorf at Mosaic Theater Company of DC

Legendary jazz artist Louis Armstrong reflects on his illustrious career in the three character drama Satchmo at the Waldorf. See it at Atlas Performing Arts Center until September 25.

15. Dinner with Friends at Peter’s Alley Theatre Center

This Pulitzer Prize- winning play about the lives of two couples opens Peter’s Alley’s 5th season. Dinner with Friends runs now through October 2 at Theatre on the Run don’t miss.

16. Antony and Cleopatra at Brave Spirits Theatre

This classic Shakespearean play tells the tale of lovers both united and torn apart by their own lust for power. Running through October 1 at The Lab at Convergence.

17. A Bid to Save the World at Rorschach Theatre

In A Bid to Save the World two friends raised in a world without death obsess over the meaning of life when it is devoid of an inevitable end. Currently running at Atlas Performing Arts Center until October 2.

18. Love’s LaBEERS Lost at LiveArtDC

Have a drink with the French court in this immersive new production of Shakespeare’s Love’s Labours Lost. September 28 through October 22 at DC Reynolds.

19. Cervantes: El último Quijote at GALA Hispanic Theatre

Performed in Spanish with English subtitles, renowned poet Lope de Vega recounts the life of Miguel de Cervantes and the secrets he shared with him. Playing through October 2 at Gala Hispanic Theatre.
