Shake Up Your Weekend Routine with These Weird and Wonderful Events
The weather is finally nice so it’s time to come out of winter-coat hiding and remind yourself you didn’t move to New York to perpetually Netflix and chill. Read on for some of the weird, wonderful, wacky, whimsical, (and sometimes cheap) events you need in your life this weekend (April 14 + 15).
Head over to Sunnyvale in Brooklyn and soak up the femme-centric vibes at “Riot Antigone”. Two local punk female-led bands will open for a collection of songs from the downtown hit musical “Riot Antigone” that rocked La Mama and Ars Nova AntFest last year.
Ballet, burlesque, circus, and opera, oh my! Company XIV creations are the perfect event for a swanky night on the town and by on the town we mean Bushwick, so plan on a drink at Idlewild afterwards.
Ready to see a brand new musical on Broadway? Broadway Comedy Club, that is…at “Blank the Musical” the musical is so fresh it’s never been performed before and will literally be created before your eyes.
Ready for something smart, feminist, and affordable? Check out a new translation of Pedro Calderón de la Barca’s fantastical Spanish Golden Age play, “La vida es sueño” or “Life is But a Dream” for a dizzying array of estranged relatives, unfulfilled prophecies, and struggles for succession.
This weekend stand-up comedians Carmen Lynch and Jordan Carlos take the stage at Eastville Comedy Club. Go get some noodz at Xi’an Famous Foods on St. Marks and then wash them down with a beer and a belly laugh.
