New year, new openings! Take a look some of the Broadway and Off-Broadway shows opening this January.

1. The Present – Opening January 8

Cate Blanchett is making her Broadway debut in The Presentwhich is adapted from Anton Chekhov’s Platonov. This explosive Sydney Theatre Company production promising gunshots, sex, and vodka will be presented as a limited engagement through March 19. Get The Present tickets here.

2. Jitney – Opening January 19

Part of August Wilson’s masterful American Century Cycle, Manhattan Theatre Club is presenting Jitney on Broadway for the first time in a limited run until March 12. You can unlock now for access to $30 Jitney daily Rush tickets on TodayTix.

3. Albatross – Opening January 19

Based on Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s famous poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Albatross is a bold one-man tour-de-force that features the mariner as an “everyman” who is pushed to his limits. This production runs through February 12 at 59e59.

4. Tell Hector I Miss Him – Opening January 23

A raw and compelling play by Paola Lázaro, Tell Hector I Miss Him explores the dark realities that lie beneath the tourist attractions in Puerto Rico. Featuring Dascha Polanco and Selenis Leyva from Orange is the New Black, see it through February 12 at Atlantic Theatre Company Stage 2.

5. The Liar at CSC – Opening January 26

Adapted by playwright David Ives from Pierre Corneille’s Le Menteur, this hilarious farce about a character who cannot lie and another who cannot tell the truth can be seen at Classic Stage Company through February 26.
