It’s the month of romance, but whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day or not, it’s the perfect time to fall in love with a new show! And even though this month has fewer days, that’s no excuse to not discover new shows or unearth some old favourites. Here are the top picks from Team TodayTix for February!
“Come From Away” – Matt (Ticketing Team)
I’m so excited to catch this much-garlanded show from New York with a sparkling new British cast. An inspiring story about a small Canadian town that unexpectedly found itself the host to thousands of stranded air passengers following 9/11, “Come From Away” has by all accounts a great mix of humour, heart, and wonderful music that should make it as big a success in the West End as it was on Broadway. Can’t wait to see it.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” has to be my favourite play this month! Based on the novel by Mark Haddon, this play takes the perspective of 15 year old Christopher writing to solve the mystery of who killed his neighbour’s dog, but discovers more than he initially intended. I was blown away by the production, brought to life with impressive technical effects to show you Christopher’s perspective of the world.
In celebration of 1000 performances, The Showstoppers are back at The Other Palace this month for a strictly limited run. Taking suggestions from the audience, these award-winning comedians create a full-blown improvised musical completely on the spot at every performance. With a unique new musical performed at every show, it’s the kind of production you can go back to time and time again with the guarantee that it will be different every single time!
“Waitress” – Jordan (Ticketing Team)
A musical written by singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, with an all female creative team and all about pie… what’s not to love? “Waitress” has enjoyed huge success on Broadway, and I’m so excited for the show to receive an equally strong reception here in London. Featuring a show-stopping score from Bareilles and based on the 2007 movie starring Keri Russell, “Waitress” tells the story of Jenna’s quest for happiness and the tribulations she encounters on the way. With the help of her friends, Dawn and Becky, Jenna finds her skills in pie-making and soon realises the potential this talent could have on her life. This show is the perfect winter treat this year!
“Tina: The Tina Turner Musical” – Stella (Ticketing Team)
My pick this month has to be the impressive ‘Tina – The Tina Turner Musical.” Packed full of smash hits and a hard-hitting story, this musical took me on a journey. Adrienne Warren gives an incredible performance as Tina, making me want to dance throughout!
“For King and Country 1940” – James (Ticketing Team)
“For King and Country 1940” is a terrific interactive piece, full of twists and turns. Get fully immersed, nominate yourself for Prime Minister, vote on decisions, or sit back and watch those around you try to make sense of the incoming Nazi threat. Either way, you’re guaranteed a fun night out!
