More information about Spring Hill Arts Gathering: Music Fest

KT Tunstall

SHAG welcomes headliner KT Tunstall, the GRAMMY®-nominated Scottish singer-songwriter and multi-platinum recording talent. In a constant cycle of creative rebirths, recently, Tunstall has emerged as a composer for short and feature films after being accepted as one of six annual fellows for the Sundance Film Institute's Composers Lab. Tunstall is currently on tour across the US supporting Hall and Oates.

Matthew Whitaker

Just 20 years old, Matthew Whitaker’s love for playing music first began at the age of 3, after his grandfather gave him a small Yamaha keyboard. At 9, Whitaker began teaching himself how to play the Hammond B3 organ. Four years later, he became the youngest artist to be endorsed by Hammond—in its 80+ year history. He was also named a Yamaha Artist at 15, becoming the youngest musician to join the stellar group of jazz pianists. Whitaker has toured in the US and abroad, performing before The Youth Assembly at the United Nations headquarters in NYC; at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Apollo Theater, Carnegie Hall, and Jazz at Lincoln Center in NYC; SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco; the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC; The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, Monterey Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, Playboy Jazz Festival, Telluride Jazz Festival, and at international venues in France, Italy, Germany, Indonesia, UK, Australia, Switzerland, Portugal, Japan, Spain, Morocco, and South Korea. Whitaker was the 1st place winner at Apollo for Fox TV’s revival of Showtime at the Apollo in 2016. In 2019 and 2020, Whitaker won The ASCAP Foundation's Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Award for his original compositions “Emotions & Underground!" respectively.

Danielle Ponder

American soul singer Danielle Ponder is both empowering and a powerhouse. In 2018, after five years as a public defender, she made the gutsy decision to quit and pursue her passion for music. Before receiving her Juris Doctorate, she performed for a decade in the soul band Black August, releasing an album, touring the world, and opening for artists John Legend, The Roots, George Clinton, and others. SHAG is thrilled to present Ponder before the release of her forthcoming EP slated for the fall, Some of Us Are Brave.

Logan Ledger

Bay Area-bred singer-songwriter Logan Ledger sets most of his songs in lightless or shadowy spaces: the bottom of the ocean, the abandoned cells of Alcatraz, dreamless bedrooms, desolate streets in the dead of night. Produced by 13-time GRAMMY®-winner T Bone Burnett (who plays guitar on more than half of Ledger’s recordings), the Nashville-based artist’s self-titled debut matches his moody noir lyricism with a darkly toned take on country music, a sound that’s stylistically wayward yet deeply grounded in classic songmanship.

Theo Kandel

Los Angeles-based alternative pop singer-songwriter Theo Kandel joins SHAG as he’s promoting his new concept EP, Spin Cycle. Candid, accessible, and uninhibited, Kandel is one of SHAG’s favorite repeat performers.

Brooklyn Raga Massive

Brooklyn Raga Massive presents their unique blend of raga and minimalism with their original composition “In D” as an homage to the renowned composer Terry Riley, inspired by Riley's "In C". Their orchestra of 15 musicians includes sitar, bansuri, violin, cello, guitar, tabla, vocal, kora, oud, trumpet, shakuhachi, frame drums, and percussion. Their full length album recording of "In D" was released in November 2020. BRM is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and collective. For nine years they have cultivated a vibrant and diverse community through their weekly concert and jam session. In the democratic spirit of these jam sessions, BRM is composed of 50+ collaborating musicians. Hailed as "Leaders of the Raga Renaissance," by The New Yorker and praised by The New York Times for "preserving the past while blurring genres in an inventive spirit," BRM curates and presents over 70 concerts annually at venues and festivals around the world.

Innov Gnawa

Innov Gnawa is a NYC-based GRAMMY®-nominated group led by Ma’alem Hassan Ben Jaafer. The title Ma’alem, meaning master, denotes Ben Jaafer’s ancestral heritage of the musical tradition, which was passed down generationally within his family in Morocco. As the spiritual elder of the ensemble, he plays the three-stringed African bass, also known as the guembri. Ben Jaafer is accompanied by Amino Belyamani, along with a brotherhood of guest musicians. Often referred to as “Sufi blues,” Gnawa is rooted in Morocco’s ancient history. Since arriving in Brooklyn, Innov Gnawa has played shows across the country from Coachella to Lincoln Center. In 2021, they released the album Lila with Daptone Records.
