Spring Hill Arts Gathering aka SHAG welcomes you to explore and engage with public programs that connect artists with nature, nurture diverse perspectives through creative collaborations and conversations, and share abundance within the Washington, CT community.
Spring Hill Arts Gathering's inaugural Opening Night is an invitation-based event featuring performances by New York City-based Bossa Nova band A Lua, and violinist Robert McDuffie performing selections from Antonio Vivaldi and Philip Glass. A seated dinner will be cooked over open fire by Chef Negro Piattoni.
Please note that admission for children under 12 is free.
GRAMMY®-nominated violinist Robert McDuffie has appeared as a soloist with the world’s foremost orchestras, shared the stage with Chuck Leavell of The Rolling Stones and the late Gregg Allman. Philip Glass dedicated his Second Violin Concerto, The American Four Seasons, to McDuffie. Mike Mills of the iconic band R.E.M. has composed a Concerto for Violin, Rock Band, and String Orchestra for him. McDuffie is the founder of both the Rome Chamber Music Festival in Italy and the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University in his native city of Macon, Georgia, and he holds the Robert McDuffie Violin Faculty Chair at the Aspen Music Festival and School, among numerous other honors.
Led by sister and brother, vocalist Chrissy Armstrong and guitarist Paul Armstrong, A Lua has been performing Bossa Nova and Samba in New York City since 2007. Joined by Ray Matinez on bass, Ali Bello on violin, and Nestor Villar on percussion, the band is looking forward to returning to the Spring Hill stage where they have delighted and inspired the community in the past.
Dinner by Chef Norberto Piattoni
Argentinian-born chef Norberto Piattoni’s practice reflects his deep reverence for agriculture and his wide-ranging influences, from traditional Argentine cuisine to the flavors of Italy and Spain, and extensive time spent in Uruguay where he worked for renowned Argentine chef Francis Mallmann at Restaurant Garzon as Head Chef. Since moving to the U.S. in 2013 he worked coast to coast, including famed Bar Tartine in San Francisco as sous-chef and opening his own restaurant Mettā where he earned a loyal following thanks to his unusual technique of fire cooking, and his attention to sourcing locally. In 2019 he opened San Pedro Inn Bar and Restaurant in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and more recently began working under the moniker “The Modestos” to do a series of pop-ups across the country, including this year at SHAG.
